It didn’t result in a win…but it sure was close.
The Kansas Jayhawks traveled to Fort Worth, TX to take on TCU in a game which was expected to be a blowout, and gave the Horned Frogs an absolute scare but eventually falling, 23-17.
Kansas’ defense was tremendous throughout the game, giving TCU’s offense fits and no ability to gain any type of rhythm either running or passing.
Offensively, the Jayhawks weren’t productive enough in the second half, resulting in the loss. Had Kansas been able to generate points off several drives, they would have left the Dallas suburb with one of the biggest upset win in Big 12 history.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, drives which needed to end in touchdowns, were ending in field goals, and the Frogs proved to be a little too much for KU to overcome that day. This now marks the third year in a row Kansas has given TCU trouble, which is odd considering the on-paper discrepancy between the two teams.
Now, Kansas continues on at 0-10 on the year with a home game against West Virginia looming this weekend.
Ryan Willis appears to be the future at QB for Kansas, showing grit in the pocket under pressure. With Ka’uan Kinner at running back, and some decent talent on the outside with the receiving core, David Beaty has shown that he has players to work with next season.
Defensively, the Jayhawks are getting better week after week. With players like Fish Smithson, who leads Kansas in tackles this season, KU is learning how to defend the ultra athletic and up-tempo Big 12.
At this point, no one expect Kansas to go win a game, but the continues improvement over the course of the season has fans something to look forward to.
