There’s document like the one that established basketball. In no other sport have the rules been written down in a document that still holds historical significance quite like basketball.

The DeBruce Center, which opened in April 2016, will be an excellent place to hang out before a Kansas basketball game at Allen Fieldhouse. The center is attached to Allen Fieldhouse and houses the original rules of basketball. The rules of basketball document was purchased by David Booth in 2010 and donated to the University at halftime of Kansas’ win over Kentucky on Jan. 30.
Outside the Center is a statue of Dr. James Naismith, the inventor of basketball and a coach at Kansas from 1898 to 1907. Inside the DeBruce Center is a timeline showing the history of basketball at Kansas and a large cafeteria area. A special exhibit at the back of the DeBruce Center one the second floor displays the original rules of basketball, as written and signed by Dr. James Naismith.
